Village Grapevine

What a coincidence. Last month we wished Kim Leighton Short Mat Bowls Club recently celebrated
the 90th birthday in January of one of its long-standing
Davies, the first of Leightons 'Famous Five' girls a Happy members Mott Jones. Mott has been a member for
50th and a couple of days later Kim's son Oliver was in over 25 years and is a regular player throughout the
North Thailand on his travels and Oli and his friend had Club's winter season in the village hall.
ridden their scooters up to see a temple in Chang Mai. Oli
thought a girl across the way looked familiar only to find it
was Rachel Trow, daughter of Julie Evans. They had no
idea the other was in the country. Small world!

And now — another Happy 50th birthday on14th April to the aforementioned Julie Evans.

Congratulations and Well Done to Liz Evans of the Pentre on recently qualifying as a Midwife

Hedges —thanks to Haydn and Sarah Jones for cutting and clearing the Village Hall hedge at the edge of the Car Park.

It was with great sadness that we all learnt of the passing of Graham Lloyd, known to many of us as DC, of
Severn Banks, Leighton. We send our love to the beautiful Barb, Rikki and all the family and hope that the
many happy memories help at what must be such a sad time for you all.

Thank you from the Events
Group to everyone who
supported the Pop-Up-Pub
in the village hall.

the revellers who eagerly
completed the quiz.

ST DAVID'S DAY SERVICE

The St David’s Day service in Leighton Church was a great success
with a lot of thought put into it by Revs Robert and Bill who also
decorated the Church with an inflatable daffodil and dragon and
we enjoyed Welsh cakes provided by Teresa, coffee by Elisabeth
and sherry by Roma, despite the fact that we learnt that St David
was teetotal — which is surprising as he was actually born in
Wales! (We learnt that none of the other 3 UK patron saints were
born in the countries they are patron of). The service finished
with a memorable and passionate rendition of ‘Hen Wlad fy
Nhadau’ sung at great volume by Gethin Edwards. Even the
blow-up dragon had a tear in his eye. Diolch Geth.
