Many congratulations to Elvet Richards on being awarded his British Empire
Medal (BEM) in the Queens New Years Honours List for his dedication to Trelystan
Church and we also hope that he greatly enjoyed his 90th BIRTHDAY party on 13th
January in Marton. We are all very proud of you Elvet as no doubt are all the
Richards family.
Elvet has been playing
the organ at Trelystan
Church since he was
17-year’s old. He was
asked to do the job
when the woman who
was the organist at the
time was having
difficulty keeping up so he
was asked to fill in.
Interviewed in the Shropshire Star he said
“I'm not a special player or anything but they
kept me on. I've enjoyed the 73 years and have
no plans on stopping any time soon. I'll keep
going as long as I can. I've been told the Lord
Lieutenant of Shropshire will present me my
medal in early spring and then I might even
get invited to the Queen's garden party at
Buckingham Palace. If my health is good, I
would love to go.”
