Films made for cinema are much more expensive to
make and therefore much better quality than made for
television dramas. But don’t wait for these to appear on
the goggle box — get out to one of our local big screen
offerings. It’s not just the screen size that matters but also
watching in the dark without the distracting surroundings
in the living room or the constant temptation to check

MWO is back! — two fully staged operas complete with
orchestras. Mid Wales Opera was founded in Meifod and
after much preparation staged Figaro at the Hafren
Theatre in 1989. After the 25th anniversary staging of
Carmen in 2014, the following year’s production had to
be cancelled because important funding had been
withdrawn. So really great news that this nationally
recognised company is back with two full scale operas. At
just £19 a seat (or £30 for both operas) these are absolute
bargains for productions so complex and costly to
produce — and in a small theatre a good view
everywhere (but avoid the ‘balconies’). .
