LEIGHTON VILLAGE HALL

The BINGO NIGHT held before Christmas proved a big hit. Thanks to Rachel for begging, stealing or
borrowing a real bingo machine to give the impression that we were a professional bunch who knew
exactly what we were doing. Within seconds it became clear that none of us had a clue and had to
rely on the posse of regular Bingo Babes that were there for the big prizes, to put us right. David
Williams was the caller who managed to ‘Duck and Dive’(5), whilst ‘ Up to his tricks’ (46), and went
‘Straight on through’ (82) until he had to ‘Get up and Run’ (41)! Thank you for those who donated
mince pies, drinks and prizes and most of all thank you to everyone who came along, from
toddlers to grandparents and everyone in between, who joined in to make it an enjoyable
evening raising £190 for Leighton Village Hall funds.

A Message from Sylvia Helliwell…..

Well I'm still reeling from the amazing generosity of the people of Leighton in supporting the Defibrillator
Fund. The final top up donation of £824 from James and Debbie Potter of Potters Recycling
has been the Icing on the Cake as we can now get on with the exciting part of finding
the best one to suit our needs without the worry of questioning "can we afford it?"
It was only in the late Spring of last year that I first mentioned I wanted to start
this project, (my sole contribution I might add) as everyone else did all the
work! Our first coffee morning raised £285 on May 13th only six months ago, and then we

were off with a draw and stall at the Show events followed by the Fashion Show. Kind donations both big and small,
and often anonymous, topped up most of our events. They were all fun, with so much hard work and organization
rewarded with support from friends old and new.

Now to start 2017 we have just over £2850 in the account which will pay for the Defibrillator, the exterior casing
and fitments, the electrical connection, First Aid training classes and information leaflets etc. It will be permanently
housed for easy access on the outside of Leighton Village Hall.

I would like to thank everyone on our LVH committee, not forgetting our editor David for reminders about items for
the Leighton News and everyone else who helped and reminded me about everything. Thank you all so much. Sylvia.

FASHION SHOW 2nd December 2016 My sincere thanks to everyone who supported me at the Fashion Show on
2nd December. Thanks to the ladies: — who bought and sold tickets
— of the Book Club for making the delicious mince pies — in the kitchen
who served the mulled wine. And last but not least to Pat Orr with her
Teddy Bear and to Carol & Phyllis who did exceptionally well on the draw.
This was a great success and raised £923 for the Defibrillator account.
Thank you once again, Kind regards, Chris Walton.
