Roy Maddox’s Sale

Just a few snapshots of Roy’s successful sale at his
workshop in the Farm Buildings on Saturday 2nd June.
We wish Roy a long and very enjoyable retirement.
He and Elaine will no doubt be spending time with
their grandchildren, the youngest of which lives in
Australia and has been named Leighton.

NEIGHBOURS

I recently heard a radio broadcast about how people behave in their neighbourhood and it reminded me of mine and

my sister’s upbringing in Leighton. We were brought up with our neighbours calling around to borrow a tool or even to

lend a helping hand during busy times such as harvesting. If we needed looking after when we were poorly, or needed

sponsors for whatever fundraising event we were taking part in, or simply just to visit animals, we would pop down the

lane to visit our lovely neighbours, the Tibbotts. Our dog Brindle also used to visit Gwyns Barn uninvited to help himself

to an egg or two!!!

Val Jones from Sycamore was also always on hand to look after us and we would also visit her for our hair cuts.

Our house would always be full of children playing and we would be able to pop to others around us (sometimes

without being invited), notably Carol Alexander, who was also our school taxi.

Chris Walton was another very kind neighbour who was, and still is, always generous with her time and her lovely

flower displays.

Mum was always (and still is) baking cakes for neighbours and we would often open our door to a surprise gift of fruit

or even a fresh pheasant. We were very lucky to have such a lovely childhood with such happy memories of our time

spent in Leighton and we still love to visit. The Bayliss Girls
